Ancestral Pregnancy

  • when first pregnant: guides build protective structure around you. it will remain until after fourth trimester is closed. perhaps there is a worn thing that corresponds to it/helps reinforce it. it has real material benefits (story of car accident).

  • affirm that being pregnant might feel crazy and unpleasant, this is okay, don’t have to love it to love becoming a parent and participate well.

  • framing giving birth as serious dying process. when we give birth we become ancestor/halfway, make it possible for our generation to be ancestors with living descendants. to become ancestor we have to die. getting support for the physical experience of dying during birth-giving. going beyond cloak and coming back. framing birth-giver as bravest part of humannness. (maybe this involves prep work of going to the edge of death practice?) desire here is to give conscious part of spirit some framework for the thing that will happen, so when it’s happening, spirit knows what to do and doesn’t need to fragment/run away as much).

  • meeting one’s fylgje--animal soul who will be the one to get your child and come back with them. this one is actually part of you, and usually we don’t get the chance to meet them. this is a bonus of being willing to incarnate someone is you get to meet your animal soul. animal soul is related to placenta too. this animal is sometimes around for pregnancy.

  • preparing foods for postpartum time as a household. ancestral foods for this, guide’s input on what to make/buy and how to keep it in freezer (soups, etc). they will be able to bless you through the traditional foods.

  • relating with living family around birth, postpartum: boundary prep, good balance prep, opportunity to heal and also opportunity to differentiate. you really choose which sources of support will be best for you during fourth trimester.

  • Find out who this one is and what they need and how to receive them

  • All the trouble in the lineages esp about nourishment, safety, home

  • Keep establishing protection -- keep clearing the field!

  • Your own gestation/prenatal time - cultural healing about this, the ways people in the family experienced this, patterns of this (esp most recent 3-4 generations)

  • Your own birth time - cultural healing about this, the ways people in the family experienced this, patterns of this (esp most recent 3-4 generations)

  • Intake of what needs to be adjusted on a body level, herbal consult from guides

  • Knowing how to call in and feel the protection/space holding for birthing time

  • Practice asking for and feeling their support/protection

  • Differentiation, naming what’s happening

  • Offerings before the birth

  • Optional role of partner(s) during birth time holding ritual space and connection to ancestors during labor
